Spectator and Parade Participant Safety Requirements
Parade Requirements:
- Throwing any objects (candy, trinkets, toys, etc.) from a moving float or walking group onto street or into crowd is prohibited. Walking parade participants may handout items to the crowd.
- Spraying or throwing liquids, including water, into the crowd or toward other entries is prohibited.
- Firearms, including those using blanks, are prohibited. No pyrotechnics, fireworks, open flames, or smoking/vaping are allowed on or near the floats.
- Driving a vehicle or riding on a float under the influence of drugs or intoxicants is prohibited.
- Drivers must maintain a steady speed of 2-3 miles per hour and 30 feet between entries (50 feet, if following an entry with children 12 years or younger walking.)
Float Riding Participants:
- No one shall be located where they could fall under the moving float. Riders are barred from dangling legs, arms, feet of edge of float.
- Riders are barred from climbing on or off the float while it is moving.
Child Participants:
- Children under 12 years riding on floats must be seated and directly supervised by adults. Children under 12 years walking must also be directly supervised by adults.
Heat Safety:
- Participants need to bring adequate drinking water and take other precautions against heat related illnesses. Water will not be available along the parade route.
Medical Emergencies:
- For all life-threatening medical emergencies, call 911. For other emergencies, police officers are located with their cars at intersections along the parade route.
Participants with Animals:
- Every participant entering animals must provide sanitation services for their animals.
- All animals must be under control at all times, restrained by leash, harness or other appropriate means.
Safety Monitors:
- Every participant will follow directives of parade safety monitors.
Check-in:
- Entries must check-in upon arrival at the staging area. Any unregistered entries arriving at check-in must complete registration.
